Fort Erie Race Track targets early June for start of racing season
FORT ERIE, May 14, 2020 - Fort Erie Live Racing Consortium announced today that early June is the target for the return of racing, however a date is yet to be confirmed, as Fort Erie waits for regulatory approvals.
“Fort Erie will be ready to race within the first week of June, pending regulatory approvals,” said Tom Valiquette, Chief Operating and Financial Officer of the Fort Erie Live Racing Consortium. “We are confident that with the new protocols that we have put in place, and by racing without spectators, we can safely resume racing in Fort Erie.”
The Province of Ontario gave horse racing approval to begin without spectators in their framework for reopening the Province, with stage 1 scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 19. Although Fort Erie Race Track’s planned opening day was Tuesday, May 26, the postponed opening will allow horses to have more time to become race ready.
